What is the OPE Tether & how did it come about?

The AP500 regulator has enormous capability as an alternator regulator.  Many of the advanced functions can only be taken advantage of with detailed programming.  The OPE Tether is a wifi access point that connects the regulator to a web based interface that allows easy programming of the AP500 to fully utilize the regulator’s capabilities.

The OPE-Tether is much more than a regulator programming tool.  It is built upon a wireless router module developed by Global Marine Networks (GMN), allowing remote access, programming, and system monitoring/testing.  Developed together with Lithionics, Wakespeed, APS, MGDC Solutions and GMN founder Luis Soltero (PhD), the OPE-Tether can connect and translate the RV-C CANbus data from multiple Lithionics battery BMS’s and multiple regulators.  This will allow monitoring and integration of charging systems to a higher level than ever before.

*****Please note that OPE has temporarily paused sales of the OPE Tether while software upgrades are happening and support resources are developed.  If you are an experienced user and  familiar with all characteristics of alternators and charging in general, please contact OPE for more info*****

The OPE-Tether: A Powerful Programming, Monitoring, and Control Tool for High-Power Charging Systems

With the OPE-Tether, using a web browser, the installer or advanced user can:

  • Customize the programming settings on APS/Wakespeed regulators
  • Monitor the performance of the alternator(s) in real time
  • Send Li3 battery & alternator data to a NMEA2000 (N2K) network

In tandem with the AP500, which has exclusive programming capabilities, the charging loads can be dynamically controlled by:

  • Engine rpm; with a completely customizable loading curve
  • Actual engine loading (on engines with J1939 CANbus data)

By Networking the OPE-Tether (via RV-C CANbus) with one or more Li3 BMS’s, one or more AP500 regulators, and (optionally) the engine J1939 CANbus, a preprogrammed “plug & play” configuration is possible, while allowing future fine-tuning.
